Wash 2D: Dots Cubed

Develop a series (6-8) of rhythmic text textured backgrounds (6x6”) using newsprint
(your topographic contour and magnetic studies will guide your use of the negative space), four to five varied solutions that harmonize or contrast with the formal and conceptual components of composition. Create two to three 3D (2 inch minimum depth) cardboard or cardstock armatures, include rhythmic application of text. For final piece you will combine dots or squares of selected compositions with rhythmic collaged studies and extrapolate its entirety into three dimensions. Use blackened
found objects to recreate the dots/squares to match scale from original composition. This object/composition will need to be mounted on the wall. The XY coordinates may be either 6x6” or 8x8”; the Z coordinate (depth) will vary but must have a minimum elevation of 2 inches. Additionally

Found Object, Late night after class

I have gotten pretty used to working in a spherical outlook with this cardboard.  I took the geodome again, and worked with that idea. Messed around with the math and the dimensions, then I cut it the sphere in half and elongated it for a more peanut shape.

I remade the dome once more so that I can add a strong base for the bottom half of the helmet part of the peanut.

I tried to figure out what to do to make a strong hold between my two nuts, so I ended up adding 4-6 layers of cardboard together and making a X like structure.

The beggining of my peanut shape. Starting to look good.

Then I got wet in the WASH room and got to washing my material.  This was just perfect in getting the 3 layers of cardboard to just slip right off on one another.

I set out each little piece of board onto the floor to dry. The idea was to make a ton of papermache material and glue it on smooth to my peanut helmet.

At 2 am Friday morning, Katy and I had everything under wraps and head home. One our way out, we found that our car's were COMPLETELY frozen over with 1cm thick of ice.

This is what happens when you warm up your car, then accidentally unroll your window instead of pressing the unlock button.

Who needs windows when you have ice?

I do not recommend the following... I punch out the ice.... and it was so FUN!

Okay, okay, back to the project...

After spending the weekend trying to papermache the damn Peanut from Hell, I came to realize something... I quite hated it. The mache was just so horrible!!! The Elmer/Water mix wasn't drying fast enough and the parts that did dry, it was pulling away from the form. I was so very sad.

Katy came to my rescue Sunday night. I was on my way to make a new peanut, and she took a look at the Peanut Hell and said I should just rip it all off.

I was very weary at first, but hey, I was just about to toss it anyway, so I was all in for it. We sat in the shower for an hour and a half washing and tearing the thing off. I wasn't really sure what the hell I was doing, but Katy's motivation helped me rip it up.
